StratusLab has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Initiative for Globus in Europe (IGE), an FP7 project which aims to coordinate European activities of the Globus open source Grid software project.
“The MoU between StratusLab and IGE builds a bridge between Cloud and Grid technology.” said Dr. Helmut Heller, project director of IGE. “Those two technologies, often portrayed as competitors, are really complementing each other”.
The MoU lays out plans to bring Globus components to the cloud, running as virtual appliances on a StratusLab cloud infrastructure. Globus Toolkit virtual appliances will be made available to StratusLab users via the StratusLab Martketplace, allowing easy deployment of a cloud-enabled Globus grid infrastructure.
The two projects will also collaborate on requirements gathering and sharing, as well as on training and dissemination activities.
The MoU was signed during the EGI Technical Forum in Lyon, France, which this year was co-hosted with the first ever GlobusEUROPE conference.
